BENTONVILLE -- A boy who admitted starting the Southside Devils street gang in Rogers will be prosecuted under the state's Extended Juvenile Adjudication Statute, a judge ruled Friday. This law allows a juvenile to be tried as an adult, but then to be treated as a juvenile until he turns 18. Deputy Prosecutor Bryan Sexton had sought the blended sentencing. The 16-year-old boy admitted starting the gang after moving here from California two years ago. He faces one felony charge of recruiting a minor to join or remain a member of the criminal gang, organization or enterprise. Benton County Circuit Judge Jay Finch plans a pre-trial hearing in the case Oct. 31."This is a way for a community to say to a young person, this is a particularly egregious or unacceptable way to behave," Finch told the boy.
