The Stewart Perry Co. Inc. is building a corporate headquarters with environmentally-friendly features on a 10-acre site on Overton Road. The contractor is now based in Liberty Park's Urban Center about a mile from its new site. Stewart Perry will seek for its new building certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System, a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Planned features include the use of reclaimed wood for floors, doors and furniture and the creation of a fish habitat in a three-acre pond on the site, said Ben Ashford, Stewart Perry project manager. The firm plans to make the building a showpiece for clients to demonstrate environmentally-friendly practices, such as effective stormwater runoff management.
